              Mrs. Moore’s Mathematics

             7th Grade Math Syllabus

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Mrs. Moore's Mathematics class. I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and working with you this school year. In this newsletter, I have outlined what we will be learning throughout the year. I expect each student to come to my class prepared and ready to learn. I love math and want to make learning math fun for my students. This requires students to listen and follow directions. Disruptions make completing work and activities in a timely manner difficult.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me by e-mail or phone. I also welcome appointments to meet in person. The school # is (919) 751 - 7125 or email at rebekahmoore@wcps.org. I will be available between 9:30 and 10:30 during the school day. If you need to reach me at any other time, you can email me or leave a voice mail and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I will be calling or emailing parents regularly to give updates on your child's behavior and class work. I look forward to a great and productive year working with your child to help them grow academically in mathematics. Let’s work together to make this a successful year for our students!

                                                                                                                                  Sincerely, Mrs. Moore
7th Grade Mathematics Teacher

Grades will be weighted equally. Work will include classwork, quizzes, Notebooks, Tests, Projects, and Vocabulary.

***Important*** - A great tool for tracking your child’s progress is through PowerSchool via the computer or mobile phone app.

Homework:
Homework will begin on week 2. It is a weekly sheet that has 10 or less problems for daily practice. It will be collected Friday morning for a grade.

Notebook:
Students will be required to take notes during my class. We will be creating an interactive notebook. A 5 subject notebook will work best. This will be a part of their grade and will be checked periodically throughout the quarter. Students need to bring their math notebook to class daily. These notebooks will be a reference that you can use as a guide with steps and examples for solving problems while doing homework.

Vocabulary:
Students will have weekly vocabulary words beginning week 2. Students will be given about 10 words on the first day of the week along with definitions. Students will have a quiz on those words on Friday.

7th Grade Curriculum Overview:

  • Ratios and Proportional Relationships - Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
  • The Number System - Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions to add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers.
  • Expressions and Equations - Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions. - Solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations.
  • Geometry - Draw, construct and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationships between them. - Solve real-life and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, and volume.
  • Statistics and Probability - Use random sampling to draw inferences about a population. - Draw informal comparative inferences about two populations. - Investigate chance processes and develop, use, and evaluate probability models.
