              Mrs. Moore’s Mathematics

             7th Grade Math Syllabus

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Mrs. Moore's Mathematics class. I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and working with you this school year. In this newsletter, I have outlined what we will be learning throughout the year. I expect each student to come to my class prepared and ready to learn. I love math and want to make learning math fun for my students. This requires students to listen and follow directions. Disruptions make completing work and activities in a timely manner difficult.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me by e-mail or phone. I also welcome appointments to meet in person. The school # is (919) 751 - 7125 or email at I will be available between 9:30 and 10:30 during the school day. If you need to reach me at any other time, you can email me or leave a voice mail and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I will be calling or emailing parents regularly to give updates on your child's behavior and class work. I look forward to a great and productive year working with your child to help them grow academically in mathematics. Let’s work together to make this a successful year for our students!

                                                                                                                                  Sincerely, Mrs. Moore
7th Grade Mathematics Teacher

Grading Scale:
100 – 90    A  Superior Performance
89 – 80      B  Good Performance
79 – 70      C  Satisfactory Performance
69 – 60      D  Poor Performance
Below 60   F  Failing

Grades will be weighted equally. Work will include classwork, quizzes, Notebooks, Tests, Projects, and Vocabulary.

***Important*** - A great tool for tracking your child’s progress is through PowerSchool via the computer or mobile phone app.

Homework will begin on week 2. It is a weekly sheet that has 10 or less problems for daily practice. It will be collected Friday morning for a grade.

Students will be required to take notes during my class. We will be creating an interactive notebook. A 5 subject notebook will work best. This will be a part of their grade and will be checked periodically throughout the quarter. Students need to bring their math notebook to class daily. These notebooks will be a reference that you can use as a guide with steps and examples for solving problems while doing homework.

Students will have weekly vocabulary words beginning week 2. Students will be given about 10 words on the first day of the week along with definitions. Students will have a quiz on those words on Friday.

7th Grade Curriculum Overview:

  • Ratios and Proportional Relationships - Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
  • The Number System - Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions to add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers.
  • Expressions and Equations - Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions. - Solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations.
  • Geometry - Draw, construct and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationships between them. - Solve real-life and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, and volume.
  • Statistics and Probability - Use random sampling to draw inferences about a population. - Draw informal comparative inferences about two populations. - Investigate chance processes and develop, use, and evaluate probability models.
